1984년 쇼팽음악원에서 피아노를 전공하여 그 해 최우수 학생으로 졸업하고, 1984년부터 1989년까지 국립 쇼팽음악대학에서 보구슬라브 마데이 교수의 지휘과정을 역시 최우수 학점으로 졸업했다. 졸업연주인 국립 바르샤바 필 하모닉 오케스트라를 지휘하여 최우수 석사학위를 수여받은 이후로 오스트리아 정부 장학생으로 비엔나 마스터 클라스에서 한스 그라프를 (Hans Graf) 사사하고, 이탈리아의 아카데미아 뮤직칼레키지아나에서 정명훈과 일리아 무신 (Ilija Musin) 교수를 사사한 후 Diploma di Merito를 수여 받았다.

그의 데뷔는, 1986년 학생으로서 국제현대음악 페스티발 주최의 "바르샤바의 가을"에 초대되어 지휘한 후 국립 바르샤바 필하모닉, 쇼팽 심포니 오케스트라, 올스틴 주립 오케스트라 등을 비롯하여 많은 폴란드 교향악단을 객원 또는 상임 지휘하였다.
1989년부터 1994년까지 폴란드 쇼팽음악대학원 오페라와 바르샤바 챔버오페라와 스테딘 국립극장에서 협연, 1989년부터 1999년까지 바르샤바 쇼팽 뮤직 아카데미의 지휘과 부교수로 재직 하였다,

1991년부터 1994년까지 젊은 음악가 협회인 Jeunesses Musicales의 폴란드지부 회장직을 역임, 1991년부터 1998년 1월까지 최연소로 폴란드 올스틴 "펠릭스 노보비에이스키" 주립교향악단의 음악 감독-상임지휘자 경영감독으로 재직하였다. 또한 그는 1995년 미국 보스턴 심포니 오케스트라 주최 지휘콩쿨에서 입상한 뒤 보스턴 심포니 오케스트라를 지휘하였고 이탈리아의 트렌토 지휘 콩쿨에서 "Diploma di Merito"를 수여 받았다. 고조프 필하모닉 예술감독 및 수석지휘자, 수원필하모닉 오케스트라, 경기페스티벌 오케스트라에서 상임지휘하였으며, 2015년 인디아 심포니 오케스트라 상임지휘자로 임명되었다.

Piotr Borkowski (b. Warsaw, 1963), conductor, pupil of Boguslaw Madey, graduate of the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw with distinction for conducting the Warsaw National Philharmonic in diploma concert (1989), followed by assistantship in the Department of Conducting at his Alma Mater and doctorate (PhD in Conducting, 1998). In 2015 he was granted the title of Doctor Hab. of Musical Arts by the National Committee for Grades and Titles of the Republic of Poland.

Earlier, Piotr Borkowski made his debut as conductor at Warsaw Autumn Festival, 1986, and that time his professional career began. A few years later (1993) he studied conducting with Hans Graf in Vienna under a Meisterkurse für Musik scholarship. In 1995 his studies with Myung-Whun Chung and Ilija Musin at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena fruited with a Diploma di Merito.

Regularly conducts many Polish orchestras such as Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Fryderyk Chopin University of Music Symphony Orchestra, Capella Bydgostiensis, Camerata Vistula, philharmonic orchestras in: Bialystok, Bydgoszcz, Jelenia Góra, Kalisz, Kielce, Koszalin, Olsztyn, Opole, Poznan, Rzeszów, Szczecin, Zielona Góra, Lódz, Gorzów, Walbrzych, and also orchestras: Boston Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Symphoniker, Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Kosice “Janacek” Philharmonic , United Chamber Orchestra, Sofia Symphony Orchestra, Trento Sinfonietta, Dnepropetrovsk State Philharmonic, La Mirada Symphony Orchestra, Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra, Karlskoga Sinfoniorkester, Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra of India. He conducts in France, Italy, Sweden, USA, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, China, South-Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Ukraine and India.

Recorded for the Polish Radio, Katowice (National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra) and commercial outfits at home (e.g. Gorzow Philharmonic, Olsztyn Philharmonic, Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Poich Radio Orchestra Warsaw) and abroad (Korean Chamber Orchestra, University of Suwon Symphony Orchestra, Daegu-Hyosung Catholic University Symphony Orchestra). He recorded for Polskie Nagrania, Polonia Records, SPV GmbH, Acte Préalable, Skarbo, DUX, Global Sound Media, Centaur Records, Musica Sacra Edition and NAXOS. For many times nominated to Polish phonographic award "Fryderyk", he received it in 2006 and 2008 for the best recording and interpretation of Polish music. His recording with Soyoung Yoon – 1st prize winner of the “H. Wieniawski” International Violin Competition, and Gorzow Philharmonic – received a nomination to prestigious International Classical Music Award in 2013.

Aspirated to the post of assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and was among finalists (February 1995). The same year Piotr Borkowski participated in the Antonio Pedrotti competition with Diploma di Merito. In the years 1991-1994 Head of the Feliks Nowowiejski State Philharmonic Orchestra in Olsztyn (Poland), then in 1994-1997 its artistic director. Toured France with the Olsztyn Philharmonic in 1993, South Korea with Chopin Symphony Orchestra (1997), Taiwan (2007) and China (2008, 2009) with University of Suwon Symphony Orchestra, and Germany (with Podlasie Philharmonic in 2010; with United Chamber Orchestra in 2012, 2013).

In 1994 guest professor of conducting at Taegu Keimyung University, College of Music (South Korea) and simultaneously guest conductor of the local Taegu Philharmonic Orchestra i.e., at the Festival of Korean Orchestras in Seoul. From that time until present regularly conducts the major Korean orchestras, and opera companies including: KBS Orchestra, Korean Symphony, Bucheon Philharmonic, Seoul National Symphony Orchestra, New Seoul Philharmonic, Suwon Philharmonic, Daegu City Symphony Orchestra, Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra, Jeonju City Symphony Orchestra, Kyungbuk Symphony Orchestra, Pusan Sinfonietta, Pohang Philharmonic, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, Cholla Buk Province State Opera Company (“Lucia di Lammermoor” by G. Donizetti) as well as Korean Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble OPUS, and The “Life and Dream” Singers chamber opera group (Asian premieres of the opera "Mannequins" by Z. Rudzinski, "Ein Fest für Boris" by Sukhi Kang and "Aleko" by S. Rachmaninoff). With The University of Suwon Opera Group he conducted W. A. Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro", "Don Giovanni", "Cosi fan tutte", "Magic Flute" and „Cavalleria Rusticana” by P. Mascagni.

Since 1996 to 2001 professor of conducting at the Hyosung Catholic University in Teagu and director of university orchestra. Since 2001 until 2011he was a professor of conducting and orchestra music director at the University of Suwon in South Korea where he also served as Chair of Orchestral Department.

In 2006 Piotr Borkowski was appointed the conductor of Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea. In years 2008-2011 he established and was the chief conductor of the Gyeonggi Festival Orchestra in South Korea.

In 2010 he was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of new-established orchestra of Gorzów Philharmonic - Centre for Art Education (Poland), where he served until November 2012.

Presently Mr. Borkowski is the Music Director of the United Chamber Orchestra, the First Guest Conductor of the Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin, and closely cooperates with the Symphony Orchestra of India in Mumbai as its Resident Conductor.
